Our Mission

Creating a better future through inspiration

Return To Roots Learning Community exists to honor childhood, reimagine learning, and cultivate thriving humans. Through nature-based, community-centered, and learner-driven experiences, we nurture curiosity, resilience, creativity, belonging, and a strong sense of self. We empower young people to grow authentically, contribute meaningfully, and to live life rooted in purpose, compassion, and connection.

Our Why

As a mother–daughter team with a long-shared history in childcare and education, Return To Roots Learning Community was inspired by both our personal journey and our evolving understanding of how children naturally grow and learn. Prior to building Return to Roots, we spent years creating safe, nurturing environments for children and families in our community. As we began raising our own children, we witnessed firsthand many of the academic, social, emotional, and mental health struggles that can emerge when children are placed in environments that do not align with their individual needs or natural ways of learning.

Those experiences led us to deeply explore child development, autonomy-based education, play-based learning, and learner-centered models. Through that journey, we began to notice a pattern. The things children seemed to need most - time to play, meaningful relationships, opportunities to contribute, freedom to explore their interests, and connection to a broader community - were often the very things being squeezed out of modern childhood. What many people now call "alternative education" felt less like a new idea and more like a return to something deeply human.

The name “Return To Roots” reflects that philosophy. It represents a return to the foundational roots of human development and authentic learning - where trusting children, honoring relationships, fostering curiosity, and creating environments is connected to real life rather than driven primarily by standardization and compliance. From that shared vision, Return To Roots Learning Community was born.
